Honeywell Experion Operations Assistant empowers TotalEnergies Port Arthur Refinery operators with faster, data-driven decisions for optimized production.

HOUSTON, Nov. 11, 2025 – Honeywell (HON) is collaborating with TotalEnergies on a pilot program deploying its AI-powered Experion Operations Assistant at the TotalEnergies Port Arthur Refinery in Texas. The initiative focuses on equipping operators with the tools needed for informed, real-time decision-making, paving the way for enhanced operational autonomy. The strategic move highlights the growing trend of integrating advanced AI solutions within the energy sector to improve efficiency and safety.

The Experion Operations Assistant, built on Honeywell’s distributed control system platform, utilizes advanced analytics to provide predictive insights into plant operations directly from the control room. This fusion of real-time data with predictive modeling enables a more proactive approach to refinery management. With the integrated solution, control room operators can anticipate potential maintenance requirements before they escalate, substantially reducing the risk of operational disruptions and associated economic losses. This foresight aims to move beyond reactive maintenance strategies and towards predictive models that can optimize resource allocation.

The initial pilot of Experion Operations Assistant at the Port Arthur site’s Delayed Coking Unit (DCU) has already yielded promising results. The AI-assisted platform successfully predicted five potential operational events, contributing to decreased downtime and a reduction in emissions from flaring. These predictions were made an average of 12 minutes prior to alarm activation, enabling operators to proactively implement corrective actions. This early warning system is critical for mitigating risks and maintaining stable operations within the refinery. The success demonstrates the potential for AI to significantly enhance the resilience and environmental performance of refinery operations.
