## FirstEnergy Foundation Extends Holiday Cheer with $40,000 in Grants to West Virginia and Maryland Nonprofits

The FirstEnergy Foundation is amplifying its commitment to community support this holiday season, awarding “Gifts of the Season” grants totaling $40,000 to two vital nonprofit organizations serving West Virginia and Maryland. These grants are part of a broader $100,000 initiative across five states, underscoring FirstEnergy Corp.’s dedication to bolstering the communities where it operates.

The two recipients in the region, Ronald McDonald House Morgantown and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Washington County, Maryland, each received $20,000. These funds are earmarked to address critical needs in housing insecurity and youth development, aligning with FirstEnergy’s strategic focus on impactful community investment.

The Ronald McDonald House Morgantown will utilize its grant to support approximately 42 families through its Jacob Johnson Family Lodging Fund. Since its inception in 1990, the organization has been a crucial resource for families of children undergoing medical treatment, offering a supportive environment away from home. Annually, it serves over 200 families, with many more benefiting from its day guest services, highlighting the significant demand for its services.

Similarly, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Washington County, Maryland, will direct its $20,000 grant towards enhancing learning opportunities for around 150 children. This program focuses on fostering strong, positive relationships between children and adult mentors, a cornerstone of the organization’s mission since 1956, aimed at shaping young lives for success.

Jim Myers, FirstEnergy’s President of West Virginia and Maryland, emphasized the importance of collective action during the holiday season. “This season reminds us how important it is to come together and support our neighbors in ways that have an impact. By supporting organizations that provide food, shelter and life-changing opportunities, we’re helping families find comfort in times of need and empowering our youth to thrive.”

This year marks the 10th anniversary of the “Gifts of the Season” program, which has consistently evolved to meet community needs and strengthen local initiatives. Since its inception in 2016, the program has distributed $1.2 million in grants, demonstrating a decade-long commitment to fostering stronger, more resilient communities.

The FirstEnergy Foundation, which supports 501(c)(3) nonprofits addressing critical community needs, has distributed over $5.5 million in support across its operational areas in 2025 alone. While the Foundation does not accept unsolicited grant applications, further information on its initiatives can be found on the FirstEnergy Foundation webpage.
