Speaking on CNBC’s “Halftime Report,” Huang emphasized that the substantial investments by major tech players are directly correlated with anticipated surges in their respective cash flows, driven by the transformative power of AI.

Nvidia’s stock saw a notable surge, closing up nearly 8% on Friday, reflecting investor confidence possibly buoyed by Huang’s perspective. This comes at a critical juncture where several of Nvidia’s key clients, including Meta, Amazon, Google, and Microsoft, have recently disclosed their earnings. During these announcements, these hyperscale computing providers revealed plans for aggressive expansion of their AI infrastructure. Collectively, these tech giants are projected to allocate an estimated $660 billion towards capital expenditures this year, a substantial portion of which is earmarked for acquiring Nvidia’s advanced AI chips.

The market’s reaction to this increased spending has been varied. While Meta and Alphabet (Google’s parent company) experienced positive stock performance following their earnings calls, Amazon and Microsoft faced investor scrutiny, resulting in a dip in their share prices.

Huang characterized the current AI buildout as “the largest infrastructure buildout in human history,” fueled by an “sky high” demand for computing power. He elaborated on how AI is enabling companies to unlock new revenue streams and enhance their core operations. For instance, Meta is transitioning from a CPU-based recommendation system to one leveraging generative AI and intelligent agents. Amazon Web Services is set to utilize Nvidia chips and AI to refine its product recommendation engine, while Microsoft plans to integrate Nvidia-powered AI to bolster its enterprise software offerings.

The CEO also highlighted the significant contributions of leading AI research labs such as OpenAI and Anthropic. Both organizations rely heavily on Nvidia’s chips, accessed through cloud platforms. Nvidia’s strategic investment of $10 billion in Anthropic last year, coupled with Huang’s recent indication of substantial investment in OpenAI’s upcoming funding round, underscores the deep symbiotic relationship between chip innovation and AI advancement.

“Anthropic is generating substantial revenue, and so is OpenAI,” Huang stated. “If they had double the computing capacity, their revenues would quadruple.” This sentiment underscores the direct correlation between compute power and economic output in the AI landscape.

Furthermore, Huang pointed to the sustained demand for AI computing power, evidenced by the fact that even older Nvidia GPUs, such as the A100 models released six years ago, are currently being leased out. This indicates a continuous need for high-performance computing resources across the AI ecosystem.

“As long as customers continue to pay for AI services and AI companies can derive profitable outcomes, the demand for compute will continue to grow exponentially,” Huang concluded, projecting a cycle of doubling and redoubling in investment and demand.
