CNBC AI News, July 16th: Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang emphasized the vital role of U.S.-China collaboration in artificial intelligence during a small media gathering last night, held on the sidelines of the third Chain Expo welcome dinner.
Huang underscored the critical balance between fostering rapid advancements in AI and ensuring its safe development. He stated that open lines of communication between the U.S. and China are paramount to navigating this dual mandate.
“We must ensure we share ideas for improving this technology with each other, as well as how to ensure the safety of AI technology,” Huang explained. “China’s open-source approach to advancing artificial intelligence is fantastic. This allows the global scientific community to scrutinize the technology, enhancing transparency and, ultimately, security.”
Huang stressed that international cooperation, particularly in crucial technological domains, is more important than ever before.
He also highlighted the significance of the Chinese market, stating, “The Chinese market is vast and dynamic. AI is developing very rapidly in China, and I am very pleased to see China’s AI development. It holds around 50% of the world’s AI researchers. Therefore, it is indeed essential for American companies to have a foothold in the Chinese market.”
This marks Huang’s third visit to China this year, underlining the importance Nvidia places on the region.
In January, Huang embarked on a roughly week-long trip to China, making appearances in Shenzhen, Beijing, and Shanghai. He attended company annual meetings, danced with employees, and even distributed “red envelope” gifts.
On April 17th, Huang visited Beijing again, where he held talks with Ren Hongbin.
During those discussions, Huang reiterated Nvidia’s commitment to China, emphasizing that “China is a very important market for Nvidia, and we hope to continue to cooperate with China.”
