Ham joins Barclays from Deutsche Bank, where he served as Co-CEO of Deutsche Numis and Head of Global Private Growth Capital. At Deutsche Bank, Ham demonstrated a knack for connecting European founders of burgeoning companies with global venture capital firms, private equity outfits, and the ever-fickle public equity markets. This experience will be crucial as Barclays aims to deepen its ties with innovative businesses globally.
Barclays is betting that Ham’s deep network within key technology hubs and his strong rapport with entrepreneurs will position the bank at the forefront of advising companies disrupting industries and driving novel solutions. The move signals Barclays’ intent to be a key player in the rapidly evolving landscape of high-growth companies.
“We are excited Alex is joining Barclays,” stated Cathal Deasy, Global Co-Head of Investment Banking at Barclays. “We are confident he will bring to our Investment Banking franchise a unique combination of connectivity across the global growth and private capital ecosystems, with a proven track record as a trusted adviser to founder-led, high-growth companies.”
Taylor Wright, also Global Co-Head of Investment Banking at Barclays, echoed the sentiment, adding, “Alex will help us grow mindshare with venture capitalists and growth private equity investors, and deepen engagement with clients. This will further enhance the momentum in these franchises, while also contributing to our strategic objectives of growing market share in ECM and M&A.” In other words, Barclays is clearly looking to Ham to boost its profile and deal flow.
The appointment is expected to bolster Barclays’ leading UK and European franchises across various sectors. Ham’s arrival is an investment in Barclays’ future, betting on his ability to bridge the gap between promising startups and the capital they need to scale. It’s a bold play that could position Barclays as a go-to bank for the next generation of industry disruptors.
