STOCKHOLM, July 29, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — In a move poised to reshape the future of network application programming interfaces (APIs), Ericsson (NASDAQ: ERIC) announced today the completion of equity investments by twelve global communication service providers (CSPs) into its subsidiary, Aduna. This cements Aduna’s position as a 50:50 joint venture. The deal, initially inked on September 11, 2024, sees Aduna primed to aggregate and commercialize network APIs on a global scale. Think of it as a universal translator for the telecom world, designed to unleash a wave of innovation from developers.
The roster of Aduna owners reads like a who’s who of the telecom industry: AT&T, Bharti Airtel, Deutsche Telekom, Ericsson, KDDI, Orange, Reliance Jio, Singtel, Telefonica, Telstra, T-Mobile, Verizon and Vodafone. This powerhouse consortium isn’t just throwing cash at the problem; it’s bringing a wealth of industry clout to the table.
Beyond the funding and commercial agreements, these shareholders bring a combined knowledge base of telecom operator relationships, a deep understanding of the developer ecosystem, and unparalleled expertise in network APIs. Ericsson is also contributing its global network platform, the very bedrock upon which Aduna will build its refined offerings. It’s a strategic alliance designed to avoid the pitfalls of fragmentation that have historically plagued network API development.
While Ericsson retains 50 percent of the venture’s equity, the remaining half is collectively held by the aforementioned CSPs. This shared ownership structure underscores a commitment to collaborative innovation.
According to Aduna CEO, Anthony Bartolo, “The closing of the transaction is another important step for Aduna. In just ten months we have built an impressive ecosystem comprising the biggest names in telecoms and the wider ICT industry. The closing provides renewed motivation for Aduna to accelerate the adoption of network APIs by developers on a global scale. This includes encouraging more telecom operators to join the new company, further driving the industry and developer experience.”
But Aduna’s ambition extends far beyond the founding partners. The company is actively cultivating a rapidly expanding ecosystem that includes a diverse array of technology and collaboration partnerships. These include additional CSPs worldwide, major developer platform players, GSIs, CPaaS providers, and ISV companies.
Notable ecosystem members to date include: e&, Bouygues Telecom, Free, CelcomDigi, Softbank, NTT DOCOMO, Google Cloud, Vonage, Sinch, Infobip, Enstream, Bridge Alliance, Syniverse, JT Global, Microsoft, Wipro and Tech Mahindra. Each player is expected to play a crucial role in expanding the reach and impact of network APIs globally.
