CNBC AI News, August 1st – A crucial battle unfolds in Hong Kong today, marking the opening salvo in the multi-billion dollar inheritance dispute surrounding the Wahaha empire. The outcome could be decided in a matter of minutes.
According to exclusive sources cited by Tencent News’ “Qianwang,”宗馥莉 has suffered a setback in this initial Hong Kong legal proceeding.
However, this courtroom clash is merely the opening act in what promises to be a protracted and complex struggle for the Wahaha fortune.
The same report emphasizes that today’s ruling is not the decisive moment in this high-stakes drama. The more significant legal battleground is the lawsuit filed against Zong Fuli by the plaintiffs in the Hangzhou Intermediate People’s Court.
Earlier, three individuals claiming to be Zong Fuli’s half-siblings initiated legal action, requesting asset preservation of accounts held at HSBC and seeking a temporary injunction from the Hong Kong High Court.
The Wahaha inheritance battle is also a high-powered legal showdown.
Representing Zong Fuli is Stevenson, Wong & Co., founded by Stevenson Wong, a highly regarded solicitor in Hong Kong and a graduate of the University of Hong Kong’s Faculty of Law.
Notably, he previously represented Stephen Chow in a high-profile case where Chow’s ex-girlfriend, Yu Wenfeng, sought HK$80 million in profit sharing.
Public records show that Yu Wenfeng sued Stephen Chow in 2012, but the case only went to trial in November 2020 and was decided in December of the same year, with Chow ultimately prevailing.
At the time, Stevenson Wong, as Chow’s legal representative, stated, “In this case, Stephen Chow was a passive party throughout.”
