OAKLAND, Calif., May 21, 2025 — The PG&E Corporation Foundation has launched its latest sustainability initiative, the Better Together Nature Positive Innovation Grant program, offering $500,000 in funding to advance environmental stewardship across Northern and Central California. The program seeks bold, community-driven projects aimed at tackling climate-related challenges through innovation and collaboration.

Grant Structure and Focus Areas

Five regional grants of $100,000 each will be awarded to projects addressing air quality improvements, land restoration, and water conservation. Eligible applicants include government entities, educational institutions, and nonprofits operating within PG&E’s service area. Funding will be distributed equally across the utility’s five regions: North Valley and Sierra, North Coast, Bay Area, South Bay and Central Coast, and Central Valley.

The grants, financed by PG&E shareholders rather than ratepayers, underscore the company’s broader commitment to supporting frontline climate resilience. “Climate change is reshaping our world, and local innovation is critical to meeting this challenge head-on,” said Carla Peterman, PG&E’s Executive Vice President of Corporate Affairs and Chief Sustainability Officer. “By empowering community partners with these resources, we’re fostering solutions that benefit both people and the planet.”

Building on Past Success

Previous grant recipients highlight the program’s tangible impact. In 2024, nonprofit Kitchen Table Advisors deployed funds to assist small regenerative farms in Santa Cruz and Monterey counties in adapting to extreme weather, while the El Dorado Fire Safe Council used its award to help seniors fortify homes against wildfires.

Proposals for the 2025 cycle may span any phase of an environmental project, from planning and design to education and implementation. Priority will be given to initiatives serving disadvantaged or vulnerable communities. Successful strategies will be shared publicly to encourage replication and cross-regional partnerships.

Eligibility and Deadline

Eligible organizations include tribal, local, or state governments, accredited schools, and IRS-recognized 501(c)(3) nonprofits. Applications close July 18, 2025.
