SIOUX FALLS, S.D.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–NorthWestern Energy Public Service Corporation, operating as NorthWestern Energy Group, is set to launch an all-source capacity request for proposals (RFP) on August 15, 2025, targeting its South Dakota electric grid. This strategic move is designed to bolster reliability by securing additional capacity via a competitive bidding process. The utility is simultaneously exploring participation in the Southwest Power Pool (SPP) Expedited Resource Adequacy Study – a fast-tracked analysis of generation projects vital for ensuring resource adequacy and grid resilience within the SPP’s operational footprint.
NorthWestern Energy currently ensures a dependable electricity supply for its South Dakota customer base through a mix of owned generation assets, power purchase agreements, and opportunistic market acquisitions. Facing both escalating load demands and heightened capacity requirements, the company aims to source additional, secure, and reliable capacity resources through this forthcoming RFP.
Aion Energy LLC will administer the RFP.
