Qualcomm’s Meng Pu: Connectivity and AI as Dual Engines Powering the Intelligent Connected Edge Expansion
From May 16–17, 2025, the China Institute of Communications held the “World Telecommunication and Information Society Day Commemorative Event” in Nanchang, marking the ITU’s 160th anniversary. Qualcomm China’s Meshon Pu highlighted the transformative synergy of 5G-Advanced (5G-A) and AI, positioning it as a driver for next-gen industrial evolution. He emphasized hybrid-AI systems balancing edge/cloud computing, enabling sensitive data processing and complex workloads. Chinese 5G-A trials across 31 provinces achieved triple-digit gains in capacity and latency, laying groundwork for 6G. Qualcomm’s X85 modem and “Yulong” product line aim to boost IoT and infrastructure, while its Snapdragon Digital Chassis supports 160 Chinese vehicle models. Demonstrations showed AI enhancing manufacturing efficiency by 40% and reducing energy use by 25%, underscoring the economic impact of this dual revolution.
