The Ericsson Mobility Report (Nov 2025) highlights the rise of 5G SA, with over 90 CSPs deploying it. Network slicing enables differentiated connectivity services, evidenced by 118 instances, with 65 commercially available. 6G is anticipated to launch commercially by 2031, reaching 180 million subscriptions. 5G subscriptions are projected to exceed 2.9 billion by the end of 2025, managing 43% of mobile data traffic. Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) continues growth, with 1.4 billion expected to have access by 2031 using 5G, offered by 159 providers.

Nvidia is investing $1 billion in Nokia, acquiring an equity stake of over 166 million new shares. This investment will fund Nokia’s AI research and development, particularly in 6G technology. The companies are also partnering to develop next-generation 6G cellular technology leveraging Nvidia’s high-performance chips. Nokia’s shares surged on the news, reflecting confidence in the partnership’s potential to accelerate AI initiatives and solidify Nokia’s position in the 6G market. Nvidia is considering integrating Nokia’s networking solutions into its future AI infrastructure.

A joint report by InterDigital and ABI Research highlights 3GPP Release 20 as a critical bridge between 5G-Advanced and 6G. Release 20 solidifies 5G while initiating 6G research in areas like AI-native networks, Integrated Sensing and Communication (ISAC), and Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTN). Key focuses include improved energy efficiency, satellite integration, and enabling new services like holographic XR and sensing-driven IoT.
