GlobalFoundries (GFS) acquired Advanced Micro Foundry (AMF) on Nov 18, 2025, creating the largest pure-play silicon photonics foundry by revenue. The deal expands GF’s 200mm production with plans to scale to 300mm and accelerates silicon photonics capacity in the U.S. and Singapore for AI datacenters and other applications. GF will establish a silicon photonics research center in Singapore with A*STAR, targeting 400Gbps data transfer solutions. This move strengthens GF’s position in the growing silicon photonics market.

GlobalFoundries’ Singapore fab joins the World Economic Forum’s Global Lighthouse Network, recognized for its adoption of Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) technologies. Since 2020, GF has implemented over 60 smart manufacturing solutions using AI, machine learning, and IoT. GF is also developing digital talent pipelines and strategic partnerships in the U.S., Europe and Asia. This designation underscores GF’s commitment to digital innovation and its role in advancing semiconductor manufacturing.

GlobalFoundries and Apple are expanding their partnership to advance semiconductor tech and bolster U.S. manufacturing. GF will manufacture wireless connectivity and power management chips for AI devices at its Malta, NY, facility. This builds on GF’s $16B investment in NY and VT sites, aligning with Apple’s $600B American Manufacturing Program pledge. The collaboration supports the push for domestic chip independence and AI leadership. This strategic move enhances GF’s position by focusing on specialized process technologies for next-gen devices.
