HPE Supercomputer to Revolutionize New Zealand Environmental Forecasting with AI
Earth Sciences New Zealand has deployed the HPE Cray XD2000 supercomputing system, “Cascade,” significantly enhancing weather forecasting and environmental research. Replacing aging infrastructure, the system triples computational power using AMD’s 4th Gen EPYC processors and HPE GreenLake for File Storage (19 petabytes). Cascade’s direct liquid cooling minimizes energy consumption, aligning with sustainability goals. This upgrade enables more precise weather predictions, bolsters resilience against climate-related hazards, and positions New Zealand as a leader in HPC within the Asia Pacific region.
