BETHESDA, Md. – Walker & Dunlop, Inc. is bolstering its presence in the European and Middle Eastern markets with the strategic hire of Aaron Knight as senior managing director and co-head of Capital Markets – EMEA, based in London. The move signals a significant expansion for the firm’s EMEA operations and reflects growing investor appetite for diverse real estate assets in the region.

Knight’s remit will encompass sourcing debt and equity capital for clients across Europe, focusing on a wide spectrum of asset classes. These include traditional sectors like build-to-rent, purpose-built student accommodation, logistics, office, and retail, as well as alternative investments such as life sciences, self-storage, and data centers. This diversified approach aligns with the evolving landscape of European real estate, where alternative assets are gaining prominence due to demographic shifts, technological advancements, and changing consumer preferences.
With over two decades of experience in commercial real estate debt product origination, structuring, and advisory, Knight’s expertise is expected to be a key driver for Walker & Dunlop’s growth in the EMEA region. His deep understanding of complex financial instruments and cross-border transactions will be crucial in navigating the intricacies of the European capital markets.
“We are thrilled to have Aaron join our leadership team, bringing exceptional expertise and cross-regional experience that will enhance our structured debt and equity advisory,” stated Claudio Sgobba, senior managing director & co-head of Capital Markets – EMEA. “Aaron will be instrumental in driving growth and creating new opportunities for our clients and business across the region.”
Knight’s previous roles include director of debt and structured finance at JLL, within the International Capital Markets team, and executive director at PGIM Real Estate, where he spearheaded European debt origination. His academic credentials include degrees in commerce and economics from the Australian National University and the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation.
“It is an exciting time to be aligned with an institution of Walker & Dunlop’s caliber,” said Knight. “The European market continues to evolve, with an increasingly diverse range of lenders and capital providers active across asset classes and jurisdictions. Walker & Dunlop has acknowledged this from the outset, committing the resources necessary to grow the Capital Markets business.”
Walker & Dunlop established its Capital Markets – EMEA operations earlier this year and has been rapidly expanding, adding eight professionals to its team within the first six months. The team’s principal-level experience, coupled with in-depth knowledge of debt and equity capital raising from leading institutions, positions the firm to capitalize on the growing opportunities in the European real estate market. This rapid expansion signals their dedication to building a strong foothold in the European market, and the strategic hiring of seasoned professionals like Knight underscores their commitment.
