DENVER – SSR Mining Inc. (Nasdaq/TSX: SSRM) announced the immediate resignation of Mr. Simon Fish from its Board of Directors. Fish departs to assume the role of Senior Executive Vice President and General Counsel at TD Bank Group. Appointed to the board in 2018, Fish chaired the Corporate Governance and Nominating Committee and served on the Compensation and Leadership Development Committee.
Rod Antal, Executive Chairman of SSR Mining, expressed gratitude for Fish’s contributions, stating, “We would like to thank Simon for his dedication and valuable guidance to the Board of Directors during his tenure. Simon has been a key contributor to the success of SSR Mining for many years and I would like to personally extend my gratitude for his contribution. On behalf of the Board and our employees, we wish him the very best in his new endeavor.”
Following Fish’s departure, SSR Mining’s Board of Directors will consist of eight members. The move comes at a time when SSR Mining, like many companies in the mining sector, is navigating volatile commodity prices and shifting investor sentiment regarding environmental, social, and governance (ESG) factors within the industry. Fish’s expertise in corporate governance was likely a valuable asset in addressing these challenges.
SSR Mining’s Strategic Outlook
While the announcement focuses on a board member’s departure, analysts are closely watching SSR Mining’s long-term strategy. The company’s ability to optimize production costs, manage geopolitical risks associated with its mining operations, and demonstrate a commitment to sustainable mining practices will be crucial for attracting and retaining investors. The absence of a Chair of the Corporate Governance and Nominating Committee raises questions about the near-term succession plan and the board’s focus on these ESG matters as it seeks a replacement.
SSR Mining is listed under the ticker symbol SSRM on the Nasdaq and the TSX.
