TORONTO, May 29, 2025 – Hudbay Minerals Inc. (TSX, NYSE: HBM) is navigating the challenging wildfire situation in northern Manitoba, prioritizing employee safety and cooperating with local authorities. Responding to a regional evacuation order affecting Flin Flon and surrounding areas, the company is working closely with emergency services. Only essential Hudbay personnel, authorized by emergency services, will remain in Flin Flon to assist in critical activities. Though active mine production ceased at the 777 mine in 2022, Hudbay maintains care and maintenance operations in Flin Flon, alongside support services for its Snow Lake operations, including concentrate handling and fabrication shops. Flin Flon has been a significant base of operations for Hudbay for nearly a century.
Operations at Snow Lake, approximately 200 kilometers east of Flin Flon, are ongoing. While a temporary reduction in production levels is anticipated due to the workforce primarily residing in Flin Flon, Hudbay remains well-positioned to meet its 2025 annual guidance metrics, citing strong year-to-date performance. Exploration activities in the Flin Flon and Snow Lake regions have been paused as fire mitigation efforts are underway.
“The safety of our employees, their families, and the communities we serve is paramount,” stated Rob Carter, Vice President of Hudbay’s Manitoba Business Unit. “We are in close contact with the City of Flin Flon, local communities, and provincial authorities, providing support during these difficult circumstances. We will continue to monitor the situation to facilitate a safe return to full operations when feasible.”
As a commitment to support Manitoba and the Flin Flon community, Hudbay is undertaking the following actions:
- Securing additional accommodations in Snow Lake for evacuated employees and their families.
- Deploying trained emergency personnel to assist with firefighting efforts.
- Maintaining open communication with the City of Flin Flon, local communities, and provincial authorities, offering Hudbay’s resources for emergency response, including supplies, equipment, and water trucks.
- Providing facility infrastructure information to aid in planning and response.
