Elon Musk sounded a fresh alarm on the risks posed by artificial intelligence, outlining three core principles he believes are essential for steering the technology toward a beneficial future.
The billionaire—who leads Tesla, SpaceX, xAI, X and The Boring Company—joined Indian investor Nikhil Kamath on a podcast on Sunday to discuss the stakes.
“It’s not that we’re guaranteed a positive future with AI,” Musk said. “When you create a powerful technology, there’s an inherent danger that it can be used destructively.”
Musk, a co‑founder of OpenAI who left the board in 2018, has publicly criticized the organization for abandoning its original non‑profit mission after launching ChatGPT in 2022. His own venture, xAI, introduced the chatbot Grok in 2023.

Geoffrey Hinton, often called the “Godfather of AI,” recently told the Diary of a CEO podcast that there is a “10 % to 20 % chance” AI could pose an existential threat, with near‑term risks including hallucinations and the automation of entry‑level jobs. Hinton added that a concerted research effort could mitigate those dangers.
From a business perspective, the conversation underscores the growing need for robust governance frameworks. Companies investing heavily in generative AI—whether for customer service, content creation or autonomous systems—must now factor in compliance costs, model auditing and the potential liability of erroneous outputs.
Technologically, the push for truth‑aligned models is accelerating research in areas such as retrieval‑augmented generation, fact‑checking pipelines and reinforcement learning from human feedback. At the same time, integrating aesthetic evaluation into AI may spur new interdisciplinary collaborations between computer vision, neuroscience and the arts.
Investors are watching closely. Market analysts note that firms that can demonstrate transparent, verifiable AI pipelines may earn premium valuations, while those that suffer high‑profile hallucination failures could see stock‑price pressure.
