At its annual developer conference, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang took the stage, projecting a staggering $1 trillion in anticipated purchase orders for its Blackwell and Vera Rubin AI chip architectures through 2027. This significantly ramps up previous forecasts, underscoring the explosive growth and insatiable demand in the artificial intelligence sector.

Huang highlighted that this surge in demand is not confined to tech giants but is also being driven by a burgeoning ecosystem of startups. This optimism was reflected in Nvidia’s stock performance, which saw a notable uptick following the announcement.

“The demand for compute power is simply immense,” Huang stated during his keynote address in San Jose, California. “If our partners can increase capacity, they can process more data, leading to a direct correlation with increased revenue opportunities.”

Nvidia’s dominance in the AI GPU market has propelled it to become the world’s most valuable public company, boasting a market capitalization nearing $4.5 trillion. The company’s pivotal role is further amplified as the AI landscape transitions from simple chatbots to sophisticated agentic applications that orchestrate multiple AI agents to execute complex tasks. This evolution necessitates faster and more efficient processing for inference, thereby creating a perpetual demand for advanced hardware.

The chipmaker recently reported an impressive year-over-year revenue growth of approximately 77%, projecting a quarterly revenue of around $78 billion. This marks the eleventh consecutive quarter of revenue growth exceeding 55%, a testament to Nvidia’s sustained market leadership.

The company is poised to launch its Vera Rubin system later this year. This groundbreaking architecture, comprising 1.3 million components, is engineered to deliver ten times the performance per watt compared to its predecessor, Grace Blackwell. This leap in energy efficiency is a critical advancement, addressing one of the most significant challenges in scaling AI infrastructure – power consumption.

Further demonstrating its commitment to innovation, Huang also introduced the Nvidia Groq 3 Language Processing Unit (LPU), the company’s inaugural chip stemming from a strategic asset purchase of Groq, an AI chip startup, valued at approximately $20 billion. Expected to ship in the third quarter, the Groq 3 LPU is designed to accelerate AI workloads. The acquisition of Groq, founded by key engineers behind Google’s in-house Tensor Processing Unit, signifies Nvidia’s intent to enhance its competitive edge against rival AI silicon solutions. The Groq 3 LPU is specifically optimized to work in tandem with GPUs, offering a synergistic performance boost.

In a display of integrated power, Huang showcased a full rack dedicated to housing the new Groq accelerators. The Groq 3 LPX rack, capable of accommodating 256 LPUs, is designed to complement the Vera Rubin rack-scale system. According to Huang, this configuration can amplify the token-per-watt performance of its Rubin GPUs by an astounding 35 times.

“Every piece of infrastructure added to a data center inherently competes for available power,” commented industry analyst Ben Bajarin of Creative Strategies, underscoring the critical importance of power efficiency in AI deployments.

Nvidia also offered a glimpse into its future roadmap with a prototype of Kyber, its next-generation rack architecture. Kyber is set to integrate 144 GPUs within vertically oriented compute trays. This novel design aims to significantly enhance density and reduce latency, promising further performance gains. The Kyber architecture is slated for integration into Nvidia’s Vera Rubin Ultra system, anticipated to ship in 2027.
