Since 2020, Republic and community partners have offered free life-saving screenings and educational resources to celebration attendees.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Republic Bank & Trust Company, or “Republic,” hosted its fifth annual Juneteenth Event at the Republic Bank Foundation YMCA today, furthering its commitment to community engagement. The bank partnered with Kentucky African Americans Against Cancer (KAAAC) and other local organizations to provide complimentary health screenings and crucial educational materials, with a specific focus on improving the well-being of West Louisville residents.
“Republic Bank is proud to annually host this important community event as we celebrate Juneteenth,” stated Logan Pichel, Republic Bank’s President and CEO. “We are dedicated to investing in West Louisville and enhancing the quality of life for the communities we serve. Today’s event allows us to empower Louisvillians with access to potentially life-saving health resources, all while fostering a sense of community celebration.”
According to the American Cancer Society, the risk of prostate cancer is especially high for Black men, with one in eight men facing a diagnosis during their lifetime. A recent National Institutes of Health (NIH) study noted that lower screening rates contribute to a higher prevalence of prostate cancer within this demographic.
Beyond prostate cancer, oral health presented another area of urgent need. The average cost of a dental screening is $130, while the Kentucky Oral Health Coalition has linked poor oral health to various health issues, including heart disease, diabetes, strokes, and Alzheimer’s disease. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports that Black Americans face the highest rates of fatal oral cancers, along with a significantly elevated probability of untreated cavities.
Furthering its commitment to the West Louisville community, KAAAC provided crucial prostate screenings. KARE Mobile also offered free dental screenings to all attendees. These complimentary services were complemented by a lively event featuring activities, food, and vendors, many of which were hosted by Black and women-owned businesses, supporting local entrepreneurs.
“We’re thrilled to celebrate Juneteenth in West Louisville for the fifth year in a row,” said Ashley Duncan, Republic Bank’s Vice President, Inclusion and Diversity. “We greatly appreciate our community partners, like KAAAC and Kare Mobile, as they’re instrumental in reaching underserved communities and providing these important, potentially lifesaving services.”
