Kevin McGrath, CEO of AI startup Meibel, articulated a central challenge: the pervasive, and often misguided, belief that every task necessitates the heavy-handed processing power of a large language model (LLM). “The biggest problem we’re contending with in AI right now,” McGrath stated, “is the misguided notion that everything needs to be processed by an LLM. It’s the idea of ‘just throw all your tokens and all your money at an AI agent that will just waste millions and millions of tokens.'” He emphasized the critical need for a more strategic approach, urging companies to meticulously assess which specific tasks are optimally suited for AI agent deployment.

Their discussions highlighted the intricate difficulties inherent in building and operating sophisticated AI agents at scale. Deep Shah, a software engineer at Google, led a session dedicated to novel techniques aimed at mitigating the substantial operational costs associated with running numerous AI agents. He underscored that poorly designed monitoring systems for these agents could inadvertently drain financial resources rather than generate savings.
“If you consider a machine learning system or any multi-agent system, there are multiple challenges you’ll encounter when you try to deploy that system at scale,” Shah explained. “The first one is the inference cost.”
Ravi Bulusu, CEO of Synchtron, pinpointed the issue of complexity, noting the myriad ways companies structure their data, select technology stacks, and manage software development and their human capital. Given that AI agents fundamentally interact with all these elements, “No single dimension is solved in isolation, and the interdependencies are what make this hard, in fact, chaotic even,” Bulusu remarked. ThinkingAI has recently pivoted, rebranding from its origins as a mobile game analytics company (formerly ThinkingData) to focus on AI agent management platforms. This strategic shift aims to leverage the widespread enthusiasm for AI agents across various industries beyond the gaming sector, particularly for clients lacking in-house AI expertise. ThinkingAI’s rebranding included a partnership with MiniMax, a prominent Chinese AI lab that has gained recognition for releasing powerful open-source models and has been identified as one of the country’s “AI Tigers.”
Chris Han, co-founder of ThinkingAI, acknowledged the appeal of OpenClaw in China but expressed reservations about its suitability for enterprise applications, citing its complexity and potential security vulnerabilities. “OpenClaw is a good tool for personal use, but it definitely cannot reach the enterprise level,” Han stated. “At the enterprise level, you have to figure out a lot of things – your memory, how to manage your agents, teams, communications; there are many things you have to address.”
While Han declined to elaborate on potential national security implications concerning Chinese AI models and their impact on ThinkingAI’s strategy, he confirmed that the platform supports AI models from a range of providers, including OpenAI and Google. He offered a lighthearted perspective on potential U.S. government bans on Chinese open-weight AI models: “If that happens, maybe we are successful.”
