Official: Vehicle Blocking Firetruck Overturned; Owner to Face Legal Consequences

In Dongfeng Town, China, civilians gained viral attention for jointly moving a car illegally parked and blocking a fire truck responding to a recycling depot fire. The vehicle obstructed the fire truck’s access, prompting bystanders to lift and relocate it. Authorities announced accountability for the owner, citing obstruction of fire access routes. Past incidents saw similar penalties, highlighting the legal repercussions for impeding firefighting efforts.

In a dramatic display of community spirit and, frankly, frustration, a video has gone viral showing civilians in China’s Dongfeng Town cooperating to move a car illegally parked and obstructing a fire truck’s access to a blaze.

The incident, which occurred near a recycling depot that caught fire, saw the fire truck’s path blocked by a black sedan. Faced with the urgency of the emergency, bystanders reportedly lifted and moved the offending vehicle, clearing the way for the firefighters.

According to an official statement released June 11th by the DongFeng Town Emergency Management Bureau, the fire broke out at the Guangyi Recycling Depot in Jichang Village around 5:40 AM local time. Firefighting efforts were initially hampered by two private vehicles illegally parked on a road clearly marked with “no parking” signs.

While one vehicle’s owner was located and removed their car, the authorities were unable to reach the owner of the obstructing sedan. Given the intense nature of the fire, the public took matters into their own hands, facilitating the passage of the fire truck.

The authorities have announced that the owner of the illegally parked vehicle will be held accountable for obstructing the road, severely impeding the fire truck.

Chinese fire safety regulations specifically prohibit any individual or entity from blocking or otherwise obstructing fire access routes.

Similar incidents in the past have resulted in penalties for obstructing vehicles. In one previous case mirroring this scenario, the owner whose car blocked the fire truck, and was later sued by the property owner. The court ruled the car owner to pay 15% of the fire damages totaling around $1,500 USD.
