This year’s initiative will cast a wide net, encompassing 164 different product categories and sampling over 16,000 batches across manufacturing, distribution, and online platforms. The sweeping inspections underscore China’s commitment to bolstering consumer safety and protecting market integrity.
The 2025 inspections are notably focused on addressing consumer concerns and prioritizing products directly affecting daily life.
A key area of focus remains children’s and students’ products, alongside a significant increase in the number of inspections for items like power banks, electric bicycles, and gas appliances. Furthermore, the campaign is broadening its scope to include emerging sectors, with inspections now covering such products as power batteries, drones, photovoltaic modules, and electric vehicle charging stations.
The effort to scrutinize products sold through live streaming platforms is also intensifying, with inspection batches slated to increase by 70% compared to 2024.
SAMR has promised to publish the inspection results comprehensively and promptly, including the exposure of any violations.
Of particular note is the heightened scrutiny of power banks, prompted by recent safety concerns. The recall of 490,000 power banks from a major manufacturer has triggered widespread attention.
Concerns about thermal runaway have prompted many universities to ban the use of certain power bank models on campus.
The company in question cited issues with certain battery cell materials, which could lead to overheating and, in extreme cases, the risk of fire.
The company has announced it will offer free replacements of the recalled power banks with new, safe models of equal or greater value or offer full refunds to affected consumers.
