HDC 2025 SDK Forum: Fostering Open-Source Collaboration and Cross-Platform Frameworks for the HarmonyOS Ecosystem

HDC 2025, a gathering of minds pushing the envelope of technological innovation, recently concluded in Sanya, China, with a pivotal focus on the HarmonyOS ecosystem. The event, aimed at HarmonyOS application developers and ecosystem partners, served as a launchpad for significant advancements in open-source resources and cross-platform frameworks designed to revolutionize app development. The cornerstone of this year’s summit was the unveiling of the groundbreaking HarmonyOS Application Open Source Component Technical Map, a strategic initiative poised to dramatically streamline app creation.

The initiative, spearheaded by Huawei, is aimed at collaborating with partners to cultivate a rich library of open-source technical components, ultimately enhancing the developer experience. The aim is to significantly reduce redundant coding efforts, a move that could translate to hundreds of thousands of lines of code saved for application developers, paving the way for faster development cycles and more efficient resource allocation.

Speaking at the event were industry stalwarts including Gong Ti, Chairman of the OpenHarmony Project Group & President of Huawei Terminal BG Software Department, along with other key figures representing Huawei and several strategic partners. This collective unveiled the technical map for open-source third-party libraries and cross-platform frameworks designed to accelerate app development.

The initiative’s collaborative spirit was evident, with HarmonyOS partners, open-source Harmony members, and developers actively contributing to the enhancement of open-source libraries and cross-platform frameworks. The result? A landscape of 1115 open-source third-party libraries and 7 cross-platform frameworks across 17 primary and 100 secondary technical domains, all designed to streamline development processes. The technical map itself leverages industry best practices, categorizing and categorizing open-source elements, complete with search, filtering, and profiling functionalities, to ease access to these crucial resources.

The vision is to foster a thriving environment where developers collaboratively build upon and share these resources, bolstering the HarmonyOS app ecosystem.

Industry experts highlighted various cross-platform frameworks and case studies during the event, illustrating the growth and utility of the HarmonyOS ecosystem.

Representatives from companies such as Meituan, Qunar, BMW China, Kimi, and Tongyi Technology presented adaptation strategies and results for frameworks like RN, Flutter, KMP, and Cordova. These presentations were followed by insightful showcases from Tencent, JD.com, and Qt Group regarding the seamless integration of in-house frameworks with the HarmonyOS platform. Demonstrations of the remarkable performance of Kuikly, Taro Native, and Qt on the HarmonyOS environment generated significant excitement among attendees.

Furthermore, Software Mansion’s experts, leaders in the RN community, shared their experience adapting React Native. Huawei’s Chief Programming Framework Expert, Xie Guo, delved into performance enhancements to cross-platform frameworks for HarmonyOS, highlighting advancements in the CJMP multi-platform architecture and the JS-X engine. ArkUI-X technology specialists further discussed ArkUI-X’s new features, including multi-platform views, embedded Fragments, and dynamic capabilities. The presentations demonstrated the growing potential of the HarmonyOS ecosystem, fueled by shared successes among partners and continuous innovation.

This collective effort underscores the HarmonyOS’s commitment to an open and cooperative development methodology. Looking ahead, the constant evolution of HarmonyOS, fuelled by its partnerships and developer contributions is expected to transform the mobile landscape.
