At the Summer Davos Forum in June 2025, JD.com founder Liu Qiangdong was asked if he would be attending a match of the Jiangsu City Football League (Su Chao). His response? A resounding “Yes, absolutely.”
This comes after JD.com announced a strategic partnership on June 20th, becoming the top-tier strategic partner of the Suqian football team within the Su Chao league.
The e-commerce giant’s commitment to Su Chao extends beyond the Suqian partnership. JD.com has also secured a deal to be an official strategic partner for the league, indicating a multi-faceted collaboration with the Jiangsu Provincial Sports Industry Group focusing on event marketing, entertainment, public fitness initiatives, broadcast production, and tailored match experiences.
For Liu Qiangdong, the connection is personal. Originating from Suqian, Jiangsu Province, he has overseen significant investment in his hometown over the years. This includes projects like the national customer service center, the Huaihai Economic Zone warehousing and logistics hub, the JD.com Smart City, and the JD.com Logistics parallel headquarters.
JD.com’s total investment in Suqian has already surpassed RMB 20 billion, demonstrating a sustained commitment to the region.
All eyes are now on the upcoming match between the Nantong team and the Suqian team on Sunday, June 29th, scheduled to begin at 19:30. Football enthusiasts and investors alike will be watching to see if Mr. Liu makes an appearance, adding a layer of star-power to the event.
On the field, the Suqian team currently holds a record of 1 win, 2 draws, and 1 loss, accumulating 5 points, placing them in fifth position.
