Campaign to Air July 14–27
BALTIMORE—Sinclair (Nasdaq: SBGI) is teaming up with the American Cancer Society (ACS) for a new initiative, “Sinclair Cares: Help Drive Out Cancer,” the media conglomerate announced today. The campaign, slated to run from July 14-27, aims to address a critical yet often overlooked challenge faced by cancer patients: transportation to and from lifesaving treatments.
The core of the program revolves around raising awareness and boosting support for the American Cancer Society’s Road To Recovery® initiative, a service that provides free rides to treatment for those in need. Sinclair aims to not only highlight the existing program but also to encourage both volunteerism and financial contributions to ensure its continued success.
Sinclair stations are set to broadcast content within their newscasts throughout the two-week campaign. A significant component is a 30-minute special focusing on the Road To Recovery® program, scheduled to air on July 26th and 27th and stream online from July 23rd. This special will feature poignant interviews from both volunteer drivers and patients undergoing treatment, illustrating the real-world impact of the program and the growing demand for community involvement.
Beyond the airwaves, Sinclair is leveraging its other assets, including Tennis Channel, to amplify the message. Public service announcements and a strategically designed social media campaign will share impactful stories and outline concrete ways for the public to get involved. Key engagement points include:
- Volunteering to Drive: Interested individuals can learn how to become Road To Recovery® drivers and provide essential support to cancer patients in their local areas.
- Donate: Contributions will directly support vital services such as transportation, lodging, and patient navigation.
- Get Help: The campaign will serve as a crucial resource for those currently struggling with transportation challenges, connecting them with American Cancer Society support networks.
According to Rob Weisbord, COO and President of Local Media at Sinclair, the company is “proud to join with the American Cancer Society to shine a light on a critical but often overlooked issue.” He added, “We hope to inspire our viewers to take action, whether by donating, volunteering, or sharing the message.” The initiative underscores the potential for media companies to leverage their reach and resources to address pressing social issues, driving tangible improvements in the lives of vulnerable populations.
