Xiaomi Among China’s Top 100 Tech Enterprises in Light Industry; First Smart Appliance Factory to Launch by Year-End

According to a recent Weibo post by Shan Lianyu, General Manager of Xiaomi’s Home Appliance Division, Xiaomi has been recognized as one of the “Top 100 Enterprises in China’s Light Industry of Science and Technology.” Adding to the accolades, the company has also been designated as an “Artificial Intelligence Enterprise” in Wuhan.

Shan Lianyu emphasized the significance of these awards, stating that they reflect industry acknowledgement of Xiaomi’s technological prowess and the city’s recognition of its innovative capabilities. He noted the company’s rapid growth in Wuhan, with substantial progress in its AI-powered hardware development, including the establishment of laboratories, factories, and expanding teams.

Xiaomi’s first dedicated smart home appliance factory is strategically located in Wuhan. Groundbreaking for the facility occurred on November 26, 2024, and structural construction was completed this past January. Mass production is slated to begin by the end of this year, a significant step for the company.

This factory represents Xiaomi’s third major smart manufacturing facility, following its smartphone and automotive plants. The Wuhan plant signals a pivotal moment for Xiaomi’s expansion into the broader home appliance market, solidifying its commitment to creating a connected ecosystem.

The initial phase of operations at the Wuhan factory will focus on air conditioning products, encompassing six specialized workshops designed for both residential and commercial HVAC systems’ assembly and production.

Wang Hua, General Manager of Xiaomi’s Public Relations Department, previously indicated that the completion of the home appliance factory will enable Xiaomi to independently research, develop, and manufacture its own air conditioning units, giving the company greater control over its supply chain and product innovation.
