CNBC AI News, July 21st – In an exclusive interview with CCTV News today, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang delivered a cascade of praise for Chinese companies and the nation’s technological prowess, highlighting Nvidia’s ongoing commitment to the dynamic market.
Huang set the tone early, stating, “China is not just another market; it is a unique market. The vitality, innovation, momentum, and the speed of development of this industry are unparalleled.”
“We’ve been here for 30 years. I came to China even before most high-tech companies did. Back then, there were only Lenovo and Great Wall,” Huang recalled, underscoring Nvidia’s long-standing presence.
The Nvidia chief emphasized that while the H20 isn’t Nvidia’s current top-tier chip, its capabilities remain impressive. “This architecture essentially defined the AI revolution we’re witnessing,” Huang explained. He cited DeepSeek as an example, noting, “DeepSeek has brought real innovation based on the H20. I am optimistic and confident in China’s innovation and capabilities; they can adapt no matter what resources they have.”
Huang also mentioned Xiaomi, recounting Lei Jun showcasing the latest Xiaomi electric vehicle. “I really want to buy one, but it’s not available in the US market, which is a pity for Americans,” he remarked, adding, “In the past five years, I think the development speed of electric vehicles in China has shocked the world.”
When pressed on whether Nvidia would supply its most advanced chips to China or customize even higher-end chips if limitations were removed, Huang responded with seasoned diplomacy. Rather than a direct answer, he observed that innovations from companies like Alibaba and DeepSeek often arise from constrained environments. “Pressure can spark brilliant ideas, though of course, who enjoys pressure?” he quipped.
