As reported on the China Tendering and Bidding Public Service Platform, UBTECH Robotics has secured a significant contract worth RMB 90.5115 million (approximately $12.6 million USD) with MIIX (Shanghai) Automobile Technology Co., Ltd. for the procurement of robotic equipment. This deal represents the largest single purchase order in the global humanoid robotics sector by value, according to industry sources.
The announcement follows UBTECH’s unveiling of Walker S2 on July 17th, the world’s first humanoid robot with autonomous battery-swapping capabilities. This innovative feature, powered by UBTECH’s proprietary hot-swappable battery system, enables near-continuous operation, significantly reducing the need for human intervention and associated labor costs.
UBTECH’s presence in the humanoid robotics market continues to deepen. In March, the company, in collaboration with the Beijing Humanoid Robot Innovation Center, introduced the “Tiangong Walker,” a full-sized (172cm) research and education humanoid robot. Demand is strong, with over 100 units already on order, and projected deliveries to educational and research institutions exceeding 300 units this year.
Responding to the growing domestic and international demand for humanoid robots, UBTECH has stated it is actively expanding production lines and increasing its manufacturing capacity.
UBTECH has forged partnerships with industry leaders including Dongfeng Liuzhou Motor, Geely Automobile, FAW-Volkswagen Qingdao Branch, Audi FAW, BYD, BAIC New Energy, Foxconn, and SF Express for industrial applications. Its internally developed Walker S series of industrial humanoid robots has successfully entered training programs at multiple automotive plants worldwide, with plans to deploy 500 units into smart manufacturing environments before the end of the year.
This near RMB 100 million order magnitude dwarfs previous industry norms of million-level (RMB) contracts, signifying a strong validation from major clients of the value proposition humanoid robots offer in terms of cost reduction and efficiency gains. UBTECH’s full-stack technological capabilities and its focus on specific application scenarios have created a distinct competitive advantage. Its ability to maintain its leading position will depend on the speed of technological iteration and further expansion of its commercial deployments.
