CNBC AI News, July 31st – The landscape of China’s internet giants has undergone a dramatic shift. The once-dominant “BAT” (Baidu, Alibaba, Tencent) has given way to what many now call “DAT,” signaling ByteDance’s ascendance.

A new report from QuestMobile reveals just how pervasive mobile internet has become, with monthly active users (MAUs) in China reaching a staggering 1.267 billion as of June 2025.

The report highlights an intensifying “winner-takes-all” effect, with the largest players consolidating their grip on the market, creating a clearly defined first and second tier.

Based on de-duplicated user scale, the top tier is led by Tencent Holdings (1.266 billion users), followed by Alibaba (1.248 billion), ByteDance (抖音集团, 1.168 billion) and Baidu (1.105 billion). This confirms ByteDance’s continued momentum, surpassing Baidu in user reach.

The second tier includes Pinduoduo (9.52 billion), Ant Group (9.35 billion), Meituan (8.94 billion), and JD.com (8.76 billion).

Rounding out the list of significant players are Kuaishou, Weibo, China Mobile, Didi, Kingsoft Office, and Huawei.

Growth among these leading companies is diverging, illustrating a dynamic and increasingly competitive market. JD.com and ByteDance are experiencing impressive user growth, reporting increases of 13% and 12% respectively.

In contrast, Pinduoduo and Baidu are seeing more modest gains, with year-over-year growth of just 0.2% and 1.3%. Meituan has even experienced a slight contraction, with a user base shrinking by 0.7%.
