CNBC AI News, August 7th – OpenAI has teased a livestream event on its X platform, scheduled for Thursday at 10 AM Pacific Time (Friday 1 AM Beijing Time).
Adding fuel to the speculation, OpenAI inadvertently typed “LIVE5TREAM” instead of “LIVESTREAM” in its announcement, prompting many online to believe the company may be gearing up to unveil its highly anticipated GPT-5 model.
Back in February, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman hinted that GPT-5 would integrate several OpenAI technologies, including “o3,” across ChatGPT and its API.
Intriguingly, OpenAI is reportedly planning to offer GPT-5 standard intelligence capabilities for free within the standard version of ChatGPT, albeit with limitations based on an unspecified “abuse threshold,” according to Altman.
This move could potentially democratize access to OpenAI’s cutting-edge AI technology, allowing non-subscribers to experience its power without a paywall.
However, Plus and Pro subscribers are expected to gain access to a more advanced GPT-5 experience, potentially unlocking features like voice integration, a canvas interface, enhanced search functionality, and in-depth research tools.
