CNBC AI News, August 12th – A runway collision at Kalispell City Airport in Montana sent plumes of smoke billowing into the sky on August 11th, according to reports from CCTV News.
Initial reports indicate that a small aircraft experienced complications during landing, subsequently veering off the runway and colliding with another aircraft situated on the taxiway. The impact ignited a fire that quickly engulfed the aircraft, creating a dramatic scene.
Eyewitness accounts describe the inbound aircraft approaching from the south before crashing at the runway’s end and striking the stationary plane.
Kalispell Police Chief Jordan Venezio and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed that the single-engine Socata TBM 700 turboprop, carrying four occupants, was attempting to land at approximately 2:00 PM local time.
The aircraft crashed upon landing, impacting a parked small plane on the airport’s taxiway. Fortunately, the impacted aircraft was unoccupied. The resulting fire, which spread to surrounding grassy areas before being extinguished, also involved several other planes.
The pilot and three passengers aboard the stricken aircraft successfully evacuated after the plane came to a stop. Two passengers sustained minor injuries and received treatment at the airport.
FAA records indicate the aircraft, built in 2011, is registered to Meter Sky LLC, based in Pullman, Washington.
