CNBC AI News, August 13th – Tencent’s Q2 earnings report, released today, reveals robust growth in its gaming sector, with domestic game revenue hitting RMB 40.4 billion, a 17% year-over-year increase.

The perennial powerhouse, Honor of Kings (王者荣耀), once again played a pivotal role, with its impressive performance significantly contributing to Tencent’s overall gaming revenue growth.

Media outlets note this marks the 35th time Honor of Kings has graced Tencent’s earnings reports, cementing its status as a flagship title in China’s vibrant gaming landscape.

According to estimates from AppMagic, Honor of Kings reigns supreme as the only mobile game to surpass $1 billion in revenue in the first half of the year, commanding a clear lead in the rankings. The game’s enduring appeal continues to translate into significant financial gains.

Honor of Kings has already secured the top spot for global revenue in the mobile gaming landscape for three consecutive years (2022-2024).

The title maintains impressive growth momentum. In fact, even without the launch of any new commercialized products in December of last year, Honor of Kings still managed to achieve a 26% year-over-year revenue increase in 2024.

As Honor of Kings celebrates its tenth anniversary this year, the game is well-positioned to potentially top the global mobile game revenue charts for the year.

Data from the “Q1 2025 China Game Industry Quarterly Report” released by the Game Publishing Committee (GPC) indicates an increase in revenue share for MOBA, shooting, strategy (including SLG), and action games.

Notably, the report attributes the increased revenue share in the MOBA category to Honor of Kings’ record-breaking performance.

Tencent Holdings’ Q2 report also shows a 22% year-over-year increase in overall game revenue, underscoring the segment’s crucial role in driving the company’s financial success. International game market revenue also surged by 35% to RMB 18.8 billion, marking the fourth consecutive quarter of record highs and demonstrating Tencent’s expanding global footprint.
