VALCOURT, QC, August 17, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Can-Am, the iconic brand under BRP Inc. (TSX: DOO) (NASDAQ: DOOO), is set to redefine the utility and recreational side-by-side vehicle category with its next-generation Can-Am Defender. A stalwart among farmers, ranchers, and off-road enthusiasts globally, the Defender is celebrated for its potent blend of performance and practicality, seamlessly merging work and play. The 2026 model marks a significant evolution, receiving a comprehensive redesign that is poised to cement its status as a market leader in capability, versatility, and dependability.

“At Can-Am, we deeply understand the relentless demands faced by farmers, ranchers, and builders worldwide,” states Julie Tourville, Director, Global Marketing, Can-Am Off-Road at BRP. “This new Defender platform is engineered to mirror that unwavering spirit. Whether it’s managing vast farmlands, navigating demanding job sites, or escaping into the backcountry, the new generation Defender delivers unparalleled value. It boasts practical, best-in-class features, cutting-edge technology, and reliable performance that our customers can depend on to push beyond limits.”

Powertrain
Anchoring the next-generation Can-Am Defender is a brand-new HD11 999cc inline three-cylinder Rotax ACE engine, unleashing a robust 95 horsepower and 70 lb-ft of torque. This formidable HD11 powerplant is coupled with a next-generation continuously variable transmission (CVT) and a pDrive primary clutch. This advanced system is meticulously calibrated to translate power into precise ground engagement, enhancing low-speed torque delivery and boosting overall reliability. Further enhancing versatility are three selectable drive modes – Normal, Work and Sport – which optimize engine output for everything from heavy towing to conquering challenging terrain.

A redesigned intake system promotes superior airflow for heightened engine performance, complemented by an enhanced cooling system that maintains optimal engine temperature and improves HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) efficiency. Notably, the 2026 Defender XT packages feature a new Quick-4Lok auto-locking front differential, while the Limited, Lone Star and X mr packages are equipped with the automatic, electronically controlled Smart-Lok front differential – maximizing traction regardless of conditions.

The new Defender builds on its legacy of best-in-class payload, towing, and cargo capacity, now coupled with an enlarged 11.9-gallon fuel tank to extend operational range for longer workdays or trail adventures.

Suspension and Chassis
A world-class powertrain demands an equally capable suspension and chassis system. The 2026 Defender delivers with a revamped suspension geometry incorporating a wider 65-inch track and larger, arched double A-arms increased by 50%. These suspension and steering components benefit from upgraded robustness and the integration of double-bonded bushings – an industry-first – reducing maintenance while delivering a notably quieter ride. Reinforcements to the chassis enhance durability for the most rigorous operational environments, including ROPS enhancements. These changes not only improve ruggedness but also lead to more precise, stable handling and superior suspension performance even under maximum load. With 12 inches of front and rear suspension travel and best-in-class 15 inches of ground clearance, the Defender confidently tackles challenging landscapes. Further boosting maneuverability, the turning radius has been significantly reduced.

Stopping power is also enhanced, as the new, larger 262mm front brake rotors are paired with 32mm hydraulic twin-piston calipers and upgraded brake pads, delivering confidence-inspiring braking performance, even under heavy loads.

Workability and Rider Experience
The 2026 Defender is engineered to work harder and smarter, delivering comfort when desired and unprecedented capability when needed. The ergonomic enhancements begin with the largest cab in its class, offering 8% more legroom compared to its closest competitor. The adjustable quick tilt steering wheel facilitates easy entry and exit, while refined backrest angles and optimized seat foam ensure superior comfort and support.

The new Defender Limited and Lone Star packages feature an enhanced HVAC system that dramatically increases cooling and heating capacity. A user-friendly three-knob design allows for intuitive climate control adjustments. CAB models also benefit from significant noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) reduction resulting in clearer in-cabin communication thanks to a new roof liner, rear wall insulation, and enhanced floor mats.

Taking the rider experience to new heights, the optional 10.25” Touchscreen Display offers a suite of valuable features. These include a back-up camera and integrated GPS navigation, enabling riders to track routes and locate companions regardless of cellular connectivity. This advanced infotainment system seamlessly integrates music control, ride statistics monitoring, accessory management, and specialized off-road navigation features via the BRP GO! app. With integrated Wi-Fi, users can tap into over-the-air software updates, giving them effortless access to the latest features as they become available. The 10.25” Touchscreen Display comes standard on Limited and Lone Star models, and is offered as an optional upgrade on XT and XT CAB versions.

With over 200 compatible accessories, Can-Am allows owners to customize their Defender to match their specific riding style and work requirements. From the convenience of LinQ cargo boxes to the new integrated plow mount and streamlined SMART accessories, this adaptable workhorse is a blank canvas ready for personalization. To power electronic accessories or tools on the go, the upgraded charging system cranks out 1700 Watts, doubling the output of previous models.

To improve visibility in low-light conditions, the 2026 Defender boasts new LED headlights that generate 45% more light output than earlier versions. Complementing this are new LED rear lights that include integrated backup lights that automatically activate when in reverse.

Engineered with the owner in mind, the new Defender provides convenient access to all service points, with industry-leading service intervals and exceptionally low maintenance costs. This minimizes downtime and maximizes time on the trail or tackling demanding jobs.

Vehicle Lineup
The 2026 Defender HD11 lineup comprises six distinct model configurations: the Defender XT, Defender XT CAB, Defender X mr, Defender Limited, Defender Lone Star, and Defender Lone Star CAB. Most configurations are available in standard (3-seat) and MAX (six-seat) variations, excluding the Lone Star.
