LONDON – Amentum (AMTM), a global player in advanced engineering and technology solutions, announced today a significant expansion of its operations in the UK, planning to create 3,000 new jobs over the next four years. This strategic move comes amid growing demand in both the nuclear power and defense sectors within the UK.

The announcement follows discussions between Amentum CEO John Heller, U.S. President Donald Trump, and UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, highlighting the pivotal role of transatlantic partnerships in driving economic growth and technological advancement.

“The energy resilience and national security of both nations hinge on continued leadership and innovation in energy and technology,” stated Heller. “These governmental commitments fuel Amentum’s growth and investment strategy, bolstering innovation, job creation, and skill development across both the U.S. and the UK.”

Amentum is currently a key partner in the development of new nuclear power stations in the UK, specifically Hinkley Point C and Sizewell C, and is also engaged in providing technical and project solutions for small modular reactors (SMRs) and fusion energy research. The company’s involvement underscores the increasing interest and investment in alternative energy sources amid global efforts to decarbonize and diversify energy portfolios.

This expansion coincides with an increasing momentum behind nuclear energy worldwide, particularly in the UK and US, spurred by policy initiatives aimed at revitalizing nuclear power generation. Analysts point to a renewed focus on nuclear as a stable and low-carbon energy source, crucial for meeting ambitious climate targets and ensuring energy security in a volatile geopolitical landscape. Furthermore, the burgeoning SMR market potentially offers more flexible and scalable solutions compared to traditional large-scale nuclear plants, attracting further investment and innovation.

“We are intensifying collaboration between our teams on both sides of the Atlantic to capitalize on opportunities specifically tailored for our capabilities,” noted Mark Whitney, president of Amentum Energy & Environment. “Based on current projections, we anticipate a 50% increase in our UK workforce over the next four years. This will be supported by strategic investments in digital engineering, artificial intelligence (AI), and automation to improve the delivery of critical infrastructure and government programs in both the UK and the U.S.”

Beyond nuclear power, Amentum also has a critical role in UK national defense, providing safety and technology services for the Royal Navy’s submarine fleet. The company manages and maintains the UK’s defense training estate for the Defence Infrastructure Organisation and provides program management and engineering support for the Atomic Weapons Establishment.

This dual focus on nuclear energy and defense positions Amentum strategically within the UK market; these investments reflect a broader trend of technology convergence within these sectors. Cybersecurity, AI, and advanced materials are increasingly vital components in both nuclear power plant operations and national defense systems, creating synergies for companies with expertise in both areas.
