The checks include inspecting appliances like water heaters and furnaces and re-lighting pilot lights. CO poisoning causes over 400 U.S. deaths annually. PG&E advises installing CO and methane detectors, ensuring proper ventilation, and never using outdoor appliances indoors. Suspected CO poisoning or gas leaks require immediate evacuation and calls to 911 and PG&E.
