NIO CEO William Li believes range-extended electric vehicle (REEV) owners will ultimately switch to pure EVs, citing their appreciation for electric driving. This follows NIO’s completion of its battery swap network along the G318 Sichuan-Tibet route, enabling EV owners to travel the difficult route. Some REEV owners, impressed by NIO’s battery swapping convenience, have expressed intentions to order NIO vehicles. NIO now has over 8,159 charging and battery swapping stations in China, highlighting its leadership in charging infrastructure and addressing range anxiety.

Online rumors allege Wells Fargo, via a cross-border factoring program led by “Mao XX,” funneled billions overseas to Chinese firms like Xiaomi and Nio. Both Xiaomi and Nio have vehemently denied any involvement with Wells Fargo or “Mao XX,” stating they’ve never cooperated or had contact. They are pursuing legal action against those spreading the false claims. These unverified accusations have generated online debate regarding misinformation and accountability.

A user publicly apologized to NIO after initially taunting their legal department over derogatory online comments. After being threatened with a lawsuit, the user claimed health issues and financial hardship, pleading for leniency and offering to remove the offensive content. He cited sleepless nights, exacerbated tinnitus, and weight loss due to the stress of the lawsuit and inability to afford cross-provincial litigation. NIO’s Chief Technology Planning Expert, Hu Chengchen, has departed the company. Initial reports linked his departure to chip development, citing a user-generated Baidu Baike entry. However, NIO’s Assistant VP of Brand and Communication clarified that Hu was not involved in chip development, but rather the company’s long-term technology roadmap. This comes as NIO rolls out its in-house World Model and its NX9031 intelligent driving chip, which a company executive stated contributed to increased profit margins.

Nio’s new brand, Ledao, is running a localized pilot program using the L60 model for Didi’s premium ride-hailing service. This move, aimed at broadening consumer access, has sparked discussion. Nio executives address public concern, clarifying this is a limited trial to potentially compete with the BYD Han in the RMB 200,000 segment. They aim to provide consumers with a Ledao experience through a curated program.

NIO Inc. reported strong May 2025 delivery figures. May deliveries reached 23,231 vehicles, a 13.1% year-over-year increase. Year-to-date deliveries totaled 89,225, up 34.7% year-over-year. Cumulative deliveries reached 760,789 vehicles by the end of May, reflecting growth across its NIO, ONVO, and FIREFLY brands. The company’s strategic expansion targets diverse segments.

The 2025 Future Automotive Pioneers Conference in Shenzhen highlighted NIO’s advancements. CEO William Li unveiled the unified brand presence of NIO, ONVO, and Firefly, cleverly referencing “Willing to Win” in Chinese. He also emphasized NIO’s commitment to Shenzhen’s innovative spirit and its extensive charging network utilized by 90% of non-NIO vehicle drivers, solidifying NIO’s infrastructure investment in China.
