Yu Minhong announced the suspension of New Oriental’s livestreaming channels “Oriental Select Looking at the World” and “Yu Ni Tong Xing” for July 25th. This is to mourn the tragic deaths of six Northeastern University students who fell into a flotation tank at a copper-molybdenum mine on July 23rd. An instructor was also injured. Investigations reveal a possible deviation from the designated tour path and a lack of specific safety protocols for the large group visit.

In a speech at Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, New Oriental’s Yu Minhong defended entrepreneurs, distinguishing them from unscrupulous merchants. He cited successes like Liu Qiangdong, Dong Mingzhu, and others, emphasizing their drive to build a better world, not simply accumulate wealth. He also discussed the challenges faced by entrepreneurs highlighting his influence and mentorship, as demonstrated by many former associates establishing their own ventures.

New Oriental founder Yu Minhong posted on social media after a cycling accident in Qinghai province, sustaining minor injuries. The mishap occurred while he was participating in a cycling expedition documenting the region’s culture and landscapes. This journey, aimed at exploring the Yellow, Yangtze, and Lancang Rivers’ sources, has attracted positive attention online as Yu shares his experiences. The trip includes a multi-day cycling loop around Qinghai Lake.
