In a move signaling a strengthening of its brand portfolio, Beijing-based Moonshot AI has acquired several “Kimi” trademarks from Xiaomi, according to reports. The transferred trademarks, encompassing services like communication and advertising sales, were originally filed as early as 2013 and are now largely in “registered” status.
Moonshot AI, founded in April 2023 with a registered capital of RMB 1 million, is led by Yang Zhilin, who also serves as its legal representative. The company’s core focus revolves around artificial intelligence software development, computer systems services, and information technology consulting, backed by a consortium of five shareholders including Yang, Zhou Xinyu, and Wu Yuxin.
The acquisition comes as Moonshot AI looks to build on the success of its AI assistant, “Kimi,” launched in October 2023. The smart assistant is tailored to address technical domains like academic paper translation, legal analysis, and application programming interface (API) documentation interpretation.
This strategic trademark transfer highlights Moonshot AI’s concerted efforts to fortify its brand equity, setting a stage for future commercial pursuits. The move potentially reflects a proactive approach to intellectual property management, ensuring the firm is well-positioned as it further develops and expands its offerings in the dynamic AI landscape.
