Palantir CEO Alex Karp issued a strong defense of his company’s technology, urging critics of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to advocate for its broader adoption within government. Speaking with CNBC following Palantir’s latest quarterly earnings report, Karp contended that the company’s core products are designed with robust data protection measures, fundamentally aligning with Fourth Amendment principles.
“If you are critical of ICE, you should be out there protesting for more Palantir,” Karp stated, emphasizing that his company’s software necessitates adherence to constitutional data privacy standards.
This assertion comes amid heightened scrutiny and ongoing protests against ICE, particularly in Minneapolis, following recent fatal incidents involving demonstrators. Further complicating the public perception, recent disclosures from the Department of Homeland Security revealed that Palantir is supplying artificial intelligence tools to ICE to aid in processing tip data.
Palantir has a history of facing criticism for its work with ICE and its perceived role in the Trump administration’s immigration enforcement policies. Federal documents from April detailed a $30 million contract with ICE aimed at providing “real-time visibility” into self-deportation trends. Beyond ICE, Palantir’s software is utilized by other significant government entities, including the Internal Revenue Service and, most prominently, the Department of Defense.
In a letter to shareholders, Karp elaborated on his perspective, asserting that Palantir’s software is not only capable of mitigating threats like terrorism but also equipped to prevent unwarranted government surveillance and intrusions into citizens’ private lives. He posited that the most effective means of safeguarding against such infringements lies in developing a platform that ensures transparency and limits access to only what is authorized. Karp framed this platform, built upon ethical considerations, as a cause that should resonate with progressives and thoughtful individuals across the political spectrum who champion Fourth Amendment values.
Karp has previously garnered attention for his outspoken views, including his firm stance in support of Israel following the October 7th attacks and the company’s engagement with the Israeli military. He acknowledged in a March 2024 interview that his pro-Israel sentiments had led to employee departures and anticipated further attrition. At the time, Karp remarked, “From my perspective, it’s not just about Israel. It’s like: Do you believe in the West? Do you believe the West has created a superior way of living?”
