In a surprising move that has sent ripples through the edtech sector, “Princess” Chengcheng, a former executive at Xuesersi, is slated to return to the company’s livestreaming channel on June 14th, according to presale information from the Xuesersi learning machine flagship store.
Chengcheng, previously a rising star at Xuesersi, departed the company earlier this year. In an interview, she explained her decision was driven by a need for a work-life balance, suggesting that her intense workload had left her yearning for travel. She noted at the time, “…I was just going crazy [wanting to travel] but now the urge to travel isn’t so strong because I don’t need that antidote anymore. I’ve found that everyday happiness is enough.”
Following her departure from Xuesersi in early 2025, Chengcheng did indeed embark on a period of travel, experiencing some scenic destinations.
Notably, in April of this year, she began livestreaming under her own personal branding. Data from her debut broadcast indicated a higher viewership than her previous appearances at Xuesersi.
Previously, known as Wu Chenchen and a native of Jingzhou, Hubei province, born in 1996, Chengcheng had risen meteorically through Xuesersi’s ranks, eventually becoming one of its youngest executives. In December 2023, Xuesersi President Peng Zhuangzhuang promoted Chengcheng to a high-level executive position and was included in company decision-making.
Prior to her departure, Chengcheng indicated that if she returned to livestreaming, she would not be focusing on the previous format.
She signaled during her departure she was “more interested in sharing a lifestyle, hoping to be an online friend. I would also like to discuss topics related to learning and education.”
