Bezos Invests in CuspAI’s Quest for New Chip Materials, Partnering with Nvidia

Jeff Bezos has backed CuspAI, a UK-based startup aiming to accelerate breakthroughs in semiconductors, clean energy, and advanced manufacturing using AI. The company secured $450 million, valuing it at $2.6 billion, with major investors including Kleiner Perkins and NEA. CuspAI leverages AI to predict novel material performance, speeding up discovery. It partners with Nvidia and Meta, and is building a global “AI Materials Foundry” ecosystem to drive technological innovation.

Jeff Bezos has backed CuspAI, a UK-based startup aiming to accelerate breakthroughs in semiconductors, clean energy, and advanced manufacturing through artificial intelligence. The company announced a significant partnership with Nvidia and a consortium of industry leaders, underscoring its ambition to revolutionize material discovery.

CuspAI has secured $450 million in funding, valuing the company at $2.6 billion. The round was led by prominent venture capital firms Kleiner Perkins and NEA, with substantial participation from Bezos Expeditions, the investment arm of Jeff Bezos. Other notable investors include Glade Brook Capital Partners, Lux Capital, AMD Ventures, and the UK’s Sovereign AI Venture Fund.

At its core, CuspAI leverages advanced AI algorithms to simulate and predict the performance of novel materials, dramatically reducing the need for exhaustive and time-consuming laboratory experimentation. This approach is critical for unlocking the next generation of technological advancements.

“Major technological leaps are frequently contingent on the discovery of new materials. The next wave of innovation, from more efficient carbon capture technologies to next-generation semiconductors and cleaner water solutions, hinges on materials that are yet to be discovered,” stated Josh Coyne, a partner at Kleiner Perkins. “CuspAI has developed a groundbreaking search engine that fundamentally changes this paradigm.”

**Building AI’s Physical Future**

CuspAI represents a vanguard of AI companies focused on translating the power of artificial intelligence into tangible, real-world applications. This trend is mirrored by other significant initiatives, such as Jeff Bezos’ own company, Prometheus, which is dedicated to developing AI for invention and physical engineering.

The British startup is expanding its global footprint with a new office in Singapore and growing its teams across the UK, Netherlands, Germany, Japan, and the United States. Central to its strategy is the “AI Materials Foundry,” an integrated ecosystem encompassing vast datasets, state-of-the-art laboratories, substantial computing power, and deep scientific expertise, all orchestrated by CuspAI’s proprietary AI platform.

Nvidia will be a key contributor to the Foundry’s compute infrastructure, alongside 45 other organizations. Meta’s Fundamental AI Research Team is also joining this initiative, highlighting the broad industry recognition of CuspAI’s potential.

“As AI increasingly reshapes the physical world, the discovery of new materials will pave the way for unprecedented advancements in semiconductors, energy, and advanced manufacturing,” said Chad Edwards, CEO and co-founder of CuspAI. “The AI Materials Foundry synergizes NVIDIA’s accelerated computing capabilities with world-class chemistry and materials science expertise, accelerating the pipeline for next-generation material innovation.”
