Alibaba Cloud Fuels Global Expansion with 20x Market Growth, New Data Centers in Malaysia and Philippines

Alibaba Cloud is expanding its global infrastructure with new data centers in Malaysia and the Philippines, bringing its total to 29 regions. This expansion supports the growing demand for cloud and AI services. Additionally, Alibaba Cloud is launching a Global AI Capability Center to foster industry-AI collaboration and talent development, while also enhancing its AI technologies like PAI and DTS for international markets. New Intel-powered ECS instances are also rolling out globally.

CNBC AI News – July 2nd. Alibaba Cloud is significantly expanding its global infrastructure footprint with the establishment of new data centers in Malaysia and the Philippines. This strategic move will bolster its worldwide network to a formidable 29 regions and 90 availability zones.

Specifically, Malaysia’s third availability zone went live on July 1st, with the Philippines’ second availability zone slated for activation in October of this year. These expansions are designed to meet the surging demand for cloud computing and artificial intelligence services across international markets.

In parallel, Alibaba Cloud is launching its inaugural Global AI Capability Center. The initiative aims to collaborate with over 1,000 enterprises to pilot more than 10 industry-specific AI demonstration projects. Furthermore, partnerships with over 120 universities globally are planned to cultivate AI talent, with an annual target of furnishing 100,000 AI professionals.

Alibaba Cloud is also accelerating the internationalization of its AI technologies.

The company’s AI platform, PAI, is seeing enhanced functionality deployed across its global infrastructure. Notably, PAI-EAS is introducing distributed EP inference capabilities with PD separation and a new model weight service feature, which significantly trims model cold start and scaling times.

Alibaba Cloud’s Data Transmission Service (DTS) will roll out its “One Channel for AI” capability overseas. This feature is engineered to support the parsing and real-time vectorization of multimodal data, including web pages, documents, images, and audio-visual content, empowering businesses to rapidly build knowledge bases and RAG-powered applications.

A significant development includes the upcoming launch of Alibaba Cloud’s ninth-generation Intel-powered enterprise-grade ECS instances in Japan, South Korea, Thailand, Malaysia, the Philippines, the UAE, Germany, and the UK, commencing this July.

In recent years, Alibaba Cloud has demonstrated a sustained commitment to global expansion, aggressively scaling its infrastructure, products, technologies, and service systems worldwide. According to Gartner, Alibaba Cloud stands as China’s largest cloud service provider and the number one in the Asia-Pacific region, having witnessed a remarkable 20-fold increase in its overseas market scale over the past five years.
