CNBC AI News, July 16th – Chinese AI startup Moonshot AI’s Kimi, the company behind the large language model (LLM) known for its extensive contextual understanding, has addressed concerns regarding slower-than-expected speeds on its K2 API.
In a statement released on their official Weibo account, Moonshot AI attributed the performance bottleneck to a combination of high user traffic and the large size of the underlying AI model. The company stated they are “working diligently to optimize inference efficiency and expand their infrastructure with additional hardware and computing power.” Kimi anticipates a noticeable improvement in API speed within the coming days.
Moonshot AI also emphasized the open-source nature of Kimi K2, encouraging users to explore alternative deployment options and integrations through other model providers. This approach allows for greater flexibility and customization, mitigating reliance solely on Moonshot AI’s infrastructure during periods of high demand.
Founded in April 2023, Beijing Moonshot AI Technology Co., Ltd., with Yang Zhilin as its legal representative and a registered capital of RMB 1 million, focuses on AI software development, computer system services, and IT consulting. The company’s ownership is distributed among five shareholders, including Yang Zhilin, Zhou Xinyu, and Wu Yuxin.
“Kimi”, launched in October 2023, is Moonshot AI’s flagship AI assistant, specifically designed for tasks such as translating professional academic papers, analyzing legal issues, and parsing API development documentation. Its ability to process and synthesize large amounts of contextually relevant information has positioned it as a leading contender in the burgeoning field of specialized AI assistants.
