Professor at China Agricultural University: Our Milk Quality is World-Class – Drink with Confidence!

Despite lower per capita milk consumption compared to other nations, China’s dairy industry has rapidly modernized, closing a century-long gap with developed countries in just two decades. Chinese milk quality now meets or exceeds EU standards, with production reaching 42 million tons in 2023. However, consumption remains low due to dietary habits and lack of awareness, with over a billion Chinese not consuming milk daily. This presents a significant growth opportunity alongside consumer education challenges for the domestic dairy market.

CNBC AI News – July 16 – Despite its massive population, China’s per capita milk consumption lags behind many nations, including Japan, where intake is double that of the Asian giant.

However, a new report, “A China Solution for the Global Dairy Industry: Modernization Driven by High Quality,” reveals that China’s dairy industry has made remarkable strides. In approximately two decades, it has closed a gap of over a century with developed dairy nations. Key indicators such as protein, fat, somatic cell count, and total bacterial count now meet or exceed EU standards, signaling a global-class quality in Chinese milk.

Professor Li Shengli of China Agricultural University, and Chief Scientist of the National Dairy Cattle Industry Technology System, asserts, “The safety and quality of Chinese milk are guaranteed. Consumers can drink it with complete confidence.”

China’s rapid dairy industrialization has propelled its average milk yield per cow into the top tier globally.

According to the “Dietary Guidelines for Chinese Residents,” the recommended daily intake of dairy products is 300-500 grams per person, roughly equivalent to a carton of milk.

While national milk production has consistently increased in recent years, reaching 42 million tons in 2023, and per capita dairy consumption is rising, China’s overall milk consumption remains relatively low due to traditional dietary habits and a lack of awareness about the nutritional benefits of dairy.

Data indicates that over one billion Chinese people have yet to incorporate milk into their daily diet, representing a significant growth opportunity for the domestic dairy market. This unveils the consumer education challenges but also promising business angles for milk producers to drive consumption.
