CNBC AI News, July 24th – Meituan, the Chinese tech giant, is doubling down on food safety and transparency, announcing its “Million Kitchen Showcase” initiative today for its Pinhão food delivery platform. The program aims to partner with 200,000 merchants, offering consumers unprecedented access to real-time kitchen conditions through images, text updates, and live video streams.
The move reinforces Meituan’s commitment to elevating industry standards, with plans to encourage one million merchants to upgrade to transparent, “open kitchen” setups.
Pinhão will provide targeted support and subsidies to merchants who actively open their kitchens to consumer scrutiny through live streaming and other visual media.
To enhance the user experience and provide greater visibility into restaurant operations, Meituan is introducing dedicated sections on the Pinhão platform to showcase key visuals. Merchants can now feature exterior storefront images, interior dining area photos, and crucial kitchen snapshots, giving these visuals equal prominence to menu items.
Early adoption of this initiative is strong, with nearly 300,000 merchants already proactively uploading these “Three Images” (storefront, dining area, and kitchen) to their online listings.
Meituan aims to scale this initiative aggressively, anticipating one million merchants will participate, covering a significant portion of the restaurants regularly used by consumers.
The platform boasts a growing roster of partners, with over 5,000 established restaurant brands currently featured on Pinhão.
As of July 2025, Pinhão’s reach encompasses over a million operational merchants nationwide, achieving peak daily order volumes exceeding 35 million.
