CNBC AI News, August 1st — NVIDIA’s website quietly updated its list of partners for its 800V DC power architecture, and the move is sending ripples through the market. InnoScience, a leading Chinese gallium nitride (GaN) manufacturer, secured a spot on the list, standing out as the sole Chinese supplier.
The news ignited a buying frenzy in Hong Kong, sending InnoScience’s stock soaring nearly 64% intraday before closing up around 31%. The surge reflects investor enthusiasm for the company’s potential role in NVIDIA’s advanced power solutions.
In response to inquiries, InnoScience confirmed the collaboration, stating it had been ongoing for some time and that its high-power GaN technology was instrumental in securing the partnership.
However, the company tempered expectations, emphasizing that the collaboration is currently in the testing phase and has not yet translated into concrete orders. Citing the impending release of its semi-annual report, InnoScience declined to comment further on the future prospects or impact of the relationship.
The collaboration isn’t entirely new. Back in May, NVIDIA alluded to InnoScience’s involvement in a technical blog post detailing its 800V architecture. InnoScience was listed alongside industry heavyweights such as Infineon, Texas Instruments, and Renesas as a key semiconductor supplier for the solution.
Interestingly, the Chinese version of that same blog post omitted InnoScience from the list of suppliers, possibly indicating the nascent stage of collaboration at the time.
Huachuang Securities research highlights InnoScience’s position as the world’s first IDM (Integrated Device Manufacturer) to achieve mass production of 8-inch GaN wafers. The company focuses on the research, manufacturing, and sale of GaN power devices.
InnoScience’s products cater to a wide range of critical applications, including consumer electronics, data centers, electric vehicles, and industrial power supplies. In 2023, the company commanded a 42.4% market share, leading the world in GaN discrete device shipments.
