CNBC AI News, August 3rd – Elon Musk’s xAI has reportedly filed a trademark application for “Macrohard” on August 1st, shelling out $2,300 for registration across two trademark classes. The move, reminiscent of a pointed jab, immediately sparked speculation about a potential rivalry with Microsoft.
The hint dropped last month, on July 14th, when Musk teased the development of a multi-agent AI software company. According to Musk, Grok, xAI’s conversational AI, would spawn hundreds of specialized agents designed for coding, image/video generation, and comprehension. These agents would then collaborate, simulating human-software interaction through virtual machines.
Musk initially described the project as tackling both “macro” challenges and “hard” problems. When a commenter suggested “Macrohard” as a potential name, Musk responded with a single, telling winking emoji.
Now, with the trademark application underway, it appears Musk is serious about turning the concept into a tangible venture.
The “Macrohard” moniker, a clear play on Microsoft’s name, adds another layer to the already complex relationship between Musk and Bill Gates. The two tech titans have clashed publicly on numerous occasions.
The initial point of contention arose when Musk learned of Gates’ short position on Tesla stock. More recently, Musk has publicly criticized Gates, accusing him of being a “mega-douche,” alleging media manipulation through negative articles, and even alluding to Gates’s connection to Jeffrey Epstein.
