CNBC AI News, August 2nd – A recent crash test pitting a heavyweight, eight-ton truck against Li Auto’s i8 has ignited a fiery debate, leaving truck manufacturer Chenglong less than impressed and prompting subsequent responses from Dongfeng.
Amidst the controversy, and to underscore the safety credentials of its vehicle, Li Auto’s product lead, @老汤哥Tango, responded to the i8-truck collision by stating, “We trust the expertise of authoritative institutions. How about a rematch? @张骁” Zhang Xiao, another Li Auto product executive, chimed in, “Sounds good. We can even live-stream it.”
Zhang, a department head in Dongfeng Liuzhou Motor’s R&D arm, responsible for body development, addressed the media regarding Li Auto executives’ proposal for a live re-test. He stated that Dongfeng Liuzhou Motor, producing both Chenglong trucks and Fengxing passenger vehicles, “doesn’t seek trouble, but isn’t afraid of it either.” This marks the first time the company has responded emphasizing its position as both a commercial and passenger vehicle manufacturer.
He further revealed that Chenglong was entirely unaware of the initial test, with Li Auto directly coordinating with the testing facility. “Previous tests have always been conducted according to regulations. We have never participated in cross-brand collision tests. However, Chenglong has frequently triumphed in demanding events like truck relay races,” he added.
Prior to this official statement, videos circulated online suggested Chenglong truck dealerships were recruiting “an ideal driver for a rematch. Don’t accuse us of bullying; bring it on if you’re brave enough.”
