CNBC AI News, Aug 8 – Chinese tech giant OPPO is turning heads, not just with its cutting-edge smartphones, but with its employee perks. According to a recent revelation from a Find product series leader, OPPO is housing its workforce in style with newly built, sea-view apartments, sparking envy across the tech world.
“Imagine being a fresh graduate and landing a job that comes with a sea-view apartment, and a mere 7-minute commute,” quipped Zhou Yibao, the aforementioned executive, highlighting the attractive package OPPO is offering.
Zhou hinted at a major move to OPPO’s new industrial park later this year, accompanied by the unveiling of nearly 5,000 additional sea-view apartment units. He is reportedly in the process of selecting his own unit.
Images released by Zhou showcase amenities that go beyond mere housing. The apartments boast comprehensive living services, leisure and entertainment facilities, fitness and wellness centers, family-friendly educational resources, and a variety of food and beverage options. Unit sizes range from a compact 25 square meter studio to a spacious 103 square meter three-bedroom apartment.
The burning question for many: what’s the rent? Based on Zhou’s interactions online, single-room apartments are expected to rent for under 1,500 yuan (approximately $210 USD) per month. A ridiculously low rate compared to market prices in similar locations.
Dubbed the “OPPO Binhai Bay Advanced Talent Housing Project,” this initiative marks OPPO’s first large-scale residential venture. It addresses the need for talent accommodation and comprehensive lifestyle support within the Dongguan Binhai Bay New Area. The project encompasses a total construction area of approximately 600,000 square meters, featuring 22 high-rise residential towers, a two-story basement, and supporting amenities. In total, the project provides over 4,100 housing units, capable of accommodating roughly 11,000 residents. This is a concrete example of companies going the extra mile to not just attract, but retain talent in a fiercely competitive market.
