The New Viking Amun Joins Award-Winning Sister Ships on the Nile River
LOS ANGELES–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Viking (NYSE: VIK) today announced the delivery of its latest river ship, the Viking Amun, to its growing fleet in Egypt. The handover ceremony took place at the Massara shipyard in Cairo, marking a significant step in Viking’s expansion on the Nile.
“As we continue to strategically expand our award-winning fleet globally, we are thrilled to welcome the Viking Amun,” stated Torstein Hagen, Chairman and CEO of Viking. “These meticulously crafted sister ships represent the pinnacle of elegance on the Nile, and we are now positioned to offer even greater opportunities for discerning travelers to immerse themselves in the wonders of Egypt with unparalleled Viking comfort.”
The Viking Amun & Viking’s Expanding Egypt Presence
Designed to accommodate 82 guests in 41 staterooms, the Viking Amun is purpose-built to navigate the Nile River, enhancing Viking’s popular 12-day Pharaohs & Pyramids itinerary. Drawing inspiration from Viking’s acclaimed river and ocean ships, the Viking Amun showcases the refined Scandinavian design aesthetic synonymous with the brand. As a virtual twin to the Viking Osiris, the Viking Aton, the Viking Sobek and the Viking Hathor, the Viking Amun boasts signature Viking features, including a distinctive square bow and an inviting indoor/outdoor Aquavit Terrace. These vessels collectively represent the most modern fleet sailing the Nile. Viking’s current Egypt lineup also includes the Viking Ra and the MS Antares. Further solidifying its commitment to the region, Viking anticipates adding five more ships to its Egypt fleet within the next two years, culminating in a total of 12 vessels gracing the Nile by 2027. This ambitious expansion underscores the company’s bullish outlook on Egyptian tourism and its strategic focus on delivering exceptional travel experiences in the region.
Viking’s expansion plans are part of a long-term growth strategy aimed at reinforcing its leadership position in the experiential travel sector. The company’s robust order book signals a clear trajectory for future growth, with expectations to take delivery of 27 additional river ships by 2028 and 10 more ocean ships by 2031. This will bring Viking’s total fleet to an impressive 112 river ships by 2028 and 23 ocean and expedition ships by 2031, representing a significant escalation in its capacity to cater to the burgeoning demand for destination-focused voyages.
